Asantehene Takes a 2-Week Break
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is taking a two-week break from all official duties.
This was made known to the Asanteman Council during a meeting at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, October 14, 2024.
His Majesty will use the break to embark on a trip outside the country, he told Mamponghene Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II and the rest of the Council members.
“I went to play golf the last time and while there, I received a call from someone who said he wanted to find out if I had really travelled out. I was baffled about it. There was news all over that I had left. How can I go out of the country without informing Mamponghene?”
“Well, for your information, I am now embarking on the trip. I will be out for two weeks.”
Per tradition, in the absence of the King, Mamponghene takes over the administration of Asanteman while Bantamahene takes over the administration of the Kumasi Traditional Council.
His Majesty is expected to leave the country on Wednesday, October 16 and this will be the state of affairs in Asanteman and Kumasi as Otumfuo takes this well-deserved break after an eventful year so far.
