Asantehene Radiates Majesty: Highlights from Emancipation Day in Trinidad and Tobago
The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was the guest of honour at the second celebration marking the Emancipation Day in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
This was after he had attended the Emancipation Day procession at the Treasury Building in Port of Spain organized by the Emancipation Support Committee earlier in the morning.
All these events marked the freedom of enslaved African mid-1800s.
At Queen’s Park, Otumfuo was captured in his glowing kente cloth- which communicated with Asante symbols- arriving at the grounds surrounded by his traditional rulers and attendants.
Leading him to his seat were traditional Kete performers displayed the dance steps rhythmically to the beat of the traditional drum.
Other scenes captured featured the monarch seated on his distinct chair beside the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley.
