Asantehene Praises National Best Livestock Farmer
The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has extolled the country’s 2023 National Best Livestock Farmer, Mr Augustine Asubonteng, for his achievement in farming so far borne out of diligence.
During a courtesy call, Otumfuo spelt out his fascination at Mr Asubonteng’s bold resolve to make a difference by venturing into farming- at a time when almost all Ghanaians are up for white-collar jobs- despite his professional status.
Otumfuo used the opportunity to call on the idle youth and traditional authorities to make farming their profession.
He observes that the country endowed with arable lands would be a better place if the citizens took advantage of them.
“He is a scholar. He holds a higher position at his workplace but he has stooped this low to go into farming. With all his knowledge, he has ventured into farming and the result is the award he has won. He has realized farming will catapult the development of the country.
“If we all follow suit, won’t the country be a better place? Nananom are custodians of the lands but most of them have never stepped foot in a farm. They now buy every foodstuff. Let us all take a cue from him for the development of the country.”
Otumfuo is now looking forward to chiefs going into farming after his advice.
He highlighted, “I’m looking forward to receiving produce from farms of Nananom next year.”
Presentation of Plaque
Mr Asubonteng was at the Palace to formally inform His Majesty about his achievement and present his plaque to him on March 13, 2024, during the second Awukudae festival at the Manhyia Palace.
His achievement came less than four years into fowl farming.
He used the occasion to serve the Palace with some of his farm products including 50 crates of eggs.
