Asantehene Informed of Passing of Regional Chief Imam
The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been formally informed of the passing of Sheik Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, also known as Asantehene Kramo.
He was confirmed dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, after he was rushed to the medical facility following what has been described as a short illness that night.
He was buried the next day in accordance with the practice of Islam.
On December 19, 2024, a delegation led by Baffour Asabere Ababio Kogyawoasu, Otumfuo Sumankwaahene, informed the King about the death alongside the presentation of kola nut.
The delegation was made up of Mr Mohammed Issah, the Deputy Asantehene Kramo, Mr Mohammed Abdul, an Imam, Alhaji Ishmael Abdellah, the Personal Secretary to the late Regional Chief Imam and Alhaji Dauda Abubakari, the Senior brother of the deceased.
Otumfuo expressed his condolences, assuring them of his maximum support.
Sheik Abdul Mumin Haroun led the Muslim Peace and Reconciliation Committee in actively advocating for peace during the 2024 General Elections.
From the beginning of the year, the Committee carried out numerous community engagements across the region.
A few days before the election, his outfit focused on engaging young people in various Islamic Senior High Schools on peace in accordance with the dictates of their religion.
