Asantehene Departs Barbados

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has drawn the curtain on his three-day state visit to Barbados.

His Majesty departed the island country on November 13, 2025.

Departure
The King left Ghana for Bridgetown in the first-ever direct flight to the country on November 11, 2025, alongside a delegation made up of Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene; Nana Effah Apenteng, Bompatamanhene; Nana Agyekum Kusi Ababio, Oyokohene; Oheneba Owusu Korkor, Asamponghene; and Baffour Kantankrankyi, Otumfuo Kyeame.

The Asantehene was received at the Grantley Adams International Airport by the Foreign Minister of Barbados, Hon. Kerrie Drurard Symmonds; the High Commissioner of Barbados to Ghana, H.E. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland; The Chief of Protocol, Resa Layne, Acting Head of Mission, Ghana Embassy in Havannah, Dr Chris Narh, as well as other government officials and representatives of GUBA Enterprise.

Courtesy Visit
The first port of call for His Majesty was Ilaro Court, the official villa of Prime Minister Hon Mia Amor Mottley.

After a tour of the villa, the King engaged in diplomatic engagement with the head of government aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana and Barbados.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of symbolic presents.

Royal Diplomatic Golf Invitational Tee Off
The Asantehene, on the second day of his visit, honoured the Royal Diplomatic Golf Invitational at the Apes Hill Club, teeing off to mark the official opening.

In attendance were Neil Murrell, Director of Sports, Barbados; Okey Ihejirika, COO of Afreximbank Caribbean Office; Jody Addison, Director of Golf and Operations at Apes Hill Club; Makayla Murrell; Ian Jackson; Charles Sekyere and others.

UWI Speech
In the afternoon of November 12, the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) was blessed with an enlightening and stirring speech under the theme: “Reclaiming Our Atlantic Destiny: Connect, Build, Renew”.

The speech highlighted the need to foster stronger ties at the governmental, academic, cultural, and people-to-people interactions between Africans in the diaspora and the mother continent to tackle shared challenges.

Present for the august event were the President of Barbados, HE Dame Sandra, the President of Grenada, Hon Dickon Mitchell and others

Inspections
Right after the speech, His Majesty embarked on a tour of the Golden-Stool-inspired Hilary McDonald Beckles Administration Block at the University, where a proudly displayed collage portrait of him was unveiled.

Otumfuo was also shown a painting by Ras Akyem Akin-Yemi Ramsey, which depicts the mystery of the descent of the Golden Stool of the Asante Kingdom, as well as a 17-year-old Baobab tree that was planted by the King during his first visit.

GUBA Awards and Dinner
His Majesty climaxed the busy Wednesday by gracing the 16th GUBA Awards and Dinner, an initiative of Akosua Dentaa Amoateng, MBE, and her associates.

The Occupant of the Golden Stool commended the team for putting together the “laudable” annual awards scheme.
