Asantehene And Wife Receive Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine
The occupant of the Golden Stool, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his wife, Lady Julia have taken the jabs of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine today.
The highly revered King took the jab at about 12 noon on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Manhyia Palace, a day after the President of Ghana and his Veep as well as their wives took theirs. Asantehene was the first to receive the jab in the Ashanti Region.
Asantehene’s resolve to combat the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic has been obvious hence his decision to take part of the process today to coerce the doubters to also take part.
His Majesty’s bold and exemplary step today signifies his readiness to lead his people to halt the spread of the deadly pandemic wrecking havoc on many countries.
The vaccine is made from one of the proteins of SARS CoV2 virus which causes the COVID-19 disease. This protein is Spike protein (S-protein) which forms the spikes on the virus shell. Gene code (nucleotides ) of this portion was expressed using recombinant DNA like all other vaccines.
Once injected, the body will perceive the protein as a full virus and start making antibodies which will help to fight real viruses of COVID-19 when a vaccinated person becomes infected with the Coronavirus.
Its efficacy is a little over 60% which means that 6 out of 10 people vaccinated by this COVAX (COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access) vaccine will effectively produce antibodies for protection.
The vaccine protein is safe as it does not induce serious allergies or reactions in people.
