Asantehene And Wife In London For King Charles’ Coronation
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, and his wife, Lady Julia, have departed Ghana for the coronation of King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla in the United Kingdom.
The royal couple left the country in a private jet on Wednesday, May 3, and were seen off at the airport by several traditional rulers.
These included Oheneba Hiahene, Prof Boachie-Adjei, Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwaatia VI, Asafohene Akyamfuor Asafo Boakye Agyeman Bonsu, Otumfuo Akyeamehene Nana Nsuase Poku Agyeman III, Abrenyasehene Oheneba Owusu Ansa, Amakyebarehene Nana Gyedu Kumanin, Otumfuo Kyeame Kwaku Owusu, and Mamsenhene Barima Osei Kwadwo.
The King and Lady Julia were seen in a video bidding the traditional rulers farewell before boarding the Vista jet flight.
The Asante Monarch and his wife will attend the coronation of King Charles on Saturday, May 6, 2023, which also marks Otumfuo’s 73rd birthday.
Today, they are scheduled to have a private audience with King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
Additionally, they will be among the guests of King Charles’ official reception for overseas guests on Friday, May 5.
The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.
The ceremony will be conducted by Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Camilla will be crowned Queen instead of Queen Consort per the coronation invitation.
King Charles III ascended the throne on September 8, 2022, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle.
