Asantehene Accepts Invitation to Grace Oguaa Fetu Afahye

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to glorify this year’s Oguaa Fetu Festival of the Oguaa Traditional Council in the Central Region.

The invitation was extended by the Paramount Chief of the Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, through a high-powered delegation on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The delegation led by Oguaa Sanaahene Nana Kweku-Yensu was received by the Asanteman Council during a meeting chaired by the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace.

Nana Kweku-Yensu in his submission indicated that the festival observed in the first week of September will mark its 60th Anniversary and the 25th enstoolment anniversary celebration of the Paramount Chief of Oguaa.

“The festival will spring from September 1 to 7 and Osabarima Kwesi Atta invites Otumfuo as the Guest of Honour for the event,” he said

As per tradition, Otumfuo relayed the information to the Council and sought their permission which was affirmatively responded to by all members who in turn pledged to avail themselves to go with His Majesty.

The Kontri Division said, “This signifies respect and great honour and so we support it.”

“The last time we were in Anlo and just recently we were in Accra and now it’s time for Oguaa. We endorse the invitation,” another commented.

Otumfuo in his final response to the delegation explained that despite wielding enormous power, he isn’t at liberty to follow his pleasure as he needs to consult his Council in every decision he takes.

With an affirmative response from them, Otumfuo indicated that he would gladly honour the invitation from the Central Region.

He revealed that he had premeditated joining the event in support of his Lodge brother even before the invitation came through.

He furthered, “I thank him {Osabarima Kwesi Atta} for the humility and respect with which he came to extend the invitation.”

Among the delegation were traditional rulers of the Council and the Planning Committee of the Fetu Festival chaired by the country’s former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.

Otumfuo in 2022 joined the Hogbetsotso Festival in the Volta Region and recently honoured an invitation to a durbar by the Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II.
