Women Empowerment Crusaders
In a sermon, the former Kumasi Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Rt Rev Prof Sarfo Kantanka highlighted the remarkable achievements of five women with the rare honour of appearing in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the Bible.

They included Tamar, Ruth, Rahab, Bathsheba and Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. These women, with different challenges, defied all the odds of society and got honoured by God, he preached.

Referencing the bible, he said Tamar, Mary and Bathsheba exhibited boldness and wisdom; Ruth showed selflessness and hard work; and Rahab, foresightedness.

These women, he noted, in the face of their challenges refused to succumb and enjoyed the grace and approval of God to become successful.

He stated, “Some women have accepted some situations and so society is suffering…Society suffers more when women fail.”

The clergyman therefore urged Queens within Asanteman to assist in advancing the vision of Asantehemaa and Lady Julia in crusading for women’s empowerment to overcome societal impediments and to raise women who embody virtues.

“God is always with the suppressed and honours such. It’s about time we got the ‘Tamars’ to change the narrative. I implore Nanahemaanom to crusade this.”

About The Queen
Nana Konadu Yiadom III is the first of five children of the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II- the thirteenth queen of the Kingdom.

She was born in 1927 in Benyaade, a town at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region.

According to a historian, Professor Osei Bonsu Safo-Kantanka, the queen was engaged in catering, farming and petty trading before her enstoolment.

She has cooking, music and dance as her hobbies.

Although she did not receive any formal education, Prof Kantanka indicates that the level of informal education she received is equivalent to any formal education.
