Asankrangwa: 5 Nabbed, One Under Pursuit for Heavy-duty Machinery Company Robbery Attack

The police say five suspects have been arrested in connection with a robbery attack on Velotop Co. Ltd, a Chinese heavy-duty machinery company located at Malta, a suburb of Asankrangwa in the Amenfi West Municipal Assembly.
They are also pursuing a resident of the area who allegedly led the robbery operation conducted on March 12, 2026, at about 1920 hours.
According to a police statement, the suspects, armed with pump-action guns, a pistol, and machetes, held workers of the company hostage and robbed them of GHC 200,000.00 cash.
“During the robbery, the suspects handcuffed three Chinese nationals, locked them in a room, and fled the scene in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number GS 576-25.”
A police patrol team visited the scene following a tip-off, but found no one there.
“The information was immediately circulated to all snap checkpoints within the jurisdiction,” it said, disclosing that the vehicle of the robbers was later spotted on the Asankrangwa-Sefwi Bekwai road and intercepted by police officers on duty at the Sumpre checkpoint.
The occupants identified as Issahaku Ibrahim, aged 42, Fatau All, aged 25, Yahaya Mumuni, aged 26, Emmanuel Antwi, aged 22 and Rashid Abdul, aged 22, were arrested while attempting to flee on foot, abandoning their vehicle.
A search conducted in the vehicle led to the retrieval of two pump-action guns; 14 AA cartridges, one Bruni Mod 84 Cal 9 PAK pistol with a magazine loaded with eight (8) rounds of ammunition; one machete, one iPhone 13 mobile phone; and one (I) Nokia C300 mobile phone.
The police also retrieved one Villoan mobile phone, two CCTV camera decoders, three pairs of handcuffs and cash in the sum of GHS 198,200.00.
It reported that a fifth suspect, identified as Abdul, aged 22, was arrested on March 13 from his hideout.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are residents of Obuasi and had travelled to Asankrangwa to carry out the robbery, that they were led by an accomplice who is a resident of Asankrangwa and is currently at large. Efforts are underway to arrest the said leader and any other accomplices.”
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before the court in due course.
