Asamanhene Inspires Students with History Makers Conference

Barima Acheampong Sarpong II, Chief of Asante Asaman in the Afigya Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region, has sponsored a three-day youth conference dubbed “History Makers’ Conference”.

The event, which opened on Tuesday, August 6, was climaxed on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Asaman Presbyterian Church of Ghana. The conference was held under the theme “Becoming a History Maker as an Emerging Youth”. It targeted youth aged between 13 and 19 years, in Junior and Senior High School students in the Asante Asaman community.

It assembled career guidance experts from Ghana and India who took the children through Purpose Discovery, Career Choice and Development, Financial Intelligence, Networking, and Moral Values.

Speaking to Opemsuo Radio’s George Addo, Barima Acheampong Sarpong II, who was also a resource person, said the major objective is to inspire the upcoming youth and future leaders of Asaman to make meaningful contributions and impact in the development of the Asaman community and Asanteman at large.

“This conference is aimed at guiding our children particularly those who just wrote their BECE to make the right choice in the selection of courses to study at Senior High Schools and to also help them identify their talent and purpose.”

More importantly, he said the event was to encourage “students as future leaders to take advantage of the opportunity to change the fortunes of Asaman and make the community a preferred destination for others, just as they may prefer Europe and other developed countries”.

Barima Acheampong Sarpong II took his oath in March this year as Asante Asamanhene and has since initiated education-oriented interventions, with more to come, as he indicates.

He told George Addo that he has engaged almost every single stakeholder who matters in the Asaman community in the last few months. The engagement, he said, was to enable him to draft a suitable policy.

“I have done what we call stakeholder engagements. I have met the youth of the community, market women, artisans, health workers, teachers at SHS, College of Education and University teachers, the DCE, Regional Police Commander, farmers, students, heads of religious bodies, family heads and others. I commissioned a survey and my report is ready so I will soon be coming out with my development plan for the short, medium and long term plans,” he emphasized.

He called on his people both home and abroad to support him develop the community into a befitting status and improve lives.
