Apply Your Principle on Gazetted Chiefs in Sampa- Mahama Told

Traditional authorities in the Sampa Traditional Area have enjoined President John Dramani Mahama to apply his principle to gazetted chiefs in Sampa.

This principle was emphasised when some traditional leaders visited him at the Jubilee House last month, they recalled.

“We listened carefully when the President stated, in relation to Bawku, that government works only with gazetted chiefs. That statement gave us hope. We respectfully and passionately ask: let that principle live in Sampa as well. The law must not bend depending on geography or influence. It must stand firm everywhere,” they affirmed at a presser on March 12, 2026.

The rulers highlighted the strategic contribution of the town in the Jaman North District in the Bono Region.

“Sampa is not an insignificant village hidden from national view. It is a district capital with over 20,000 people. It is the administrative heart of the Jaman North District in the Bono Region. It is the Cashew hub of Ghana. It is a cross-border town that sustains trade with Côte d’Ivoire. Thousands depend on the peace of Sampa to feed their families. Today, that peace is fragile.”

In an appeal for the intervention of the President, they said, “History will remember whether early warnings were heeded.”

It comes as one Sammor Duah has been peddling himself as the Sampamanhene with the support of the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.

Recently, the said person, exposed as a non-royal, defied traditions and conducted the funeral rites for the late Paramount Chief and Queen Mother of Sampa, despite a court injunction.
