Anglogold Ashanti Shoots Down Report Of Illegal Miners Trapped In Pit
Anglogold Ashanti Limited has rubbished reports that some illegal miners have been trapped in its underground working areas at the Obuasi Gold Mine.
It was reported yesterday that some persons had been trapped at the gold-producing company’s Obuasi underground working area but a statement from the company has said otherwise.
The company said it rather arrested eleven unauthorised persons who were exiting the working area.
It noted that a subsequent patrol in the underground working area did not show signs of anyone’s presence.
“Authorities and Mine security personnel have conducted a patrol of the underground workings in the Northern area of the mine and are not aware of anyone remaining underground”, a part of a statement from the Company said.
However, it advised that anyone in the underground working area exit through any of the exit points- where security personnel have been stationed.
The company said it will collaborate with authorities to ensure that only its personnel gain access to their working areas.
