Asante Kotoko SC former captain Amos Frimpong has described the Board and Management resolve to participate in the 2020/21 Champions League competition as a bold step.

Asante Kotoko and Obuasi AshantiGold have been given the nod to represent Ghana in this season’s CAF competitions by the Executive Council of Ghana Football Association following the cancellation of the Premier League due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Porcupines however have responded positively to the call from the GFA to participate in the Champions League competition.

Reacting to Kotoko’s decision to compete with other big guns in the CAF elite competition, Champions League, AS Kaloum Stars right-back, Amos Frimpong on Opemsuo 104.7 FM evening sports show, Pramaso said, hosted by KOD, “the decision to play in Champions League is a bold one because the players have not been active since March.

Nonetheless, the current situation can be juxtaposed to what happened to us during the time of C.K. Akonnor. Regardless of the challenges, we braved the odds to reach the group stage of the competition a feat it took Kotoko a decade to achieve.”

He reckoned that the Management will need the indefatigable relentless support from the Kotoko supporters who are the gaining steam for the success of the team.
“The Management should work to win the support of the supporters because they shoulder the team in hard times and once they are able to secure that the club will be good to go far in the competition.”

Frimpong currently plays for Kaloum Stars in Guinea Conakry. He spent eight (8) seasons with the Ghanaian giants before leaving to seek greener pastures.
