Amoatia Ofori Panin’s decision attacked after admitting “unqualified” Chiefs into ERHC
Tension is blowing between Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng and Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin of Kyeibi Traditional Council over the latter’s unilateral decision to admit some chiefs into the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs (ERHC).
According to Daasebre Prof. (Emeritus) Oti Boateng such decision by Osafyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who doubles as the President of ERHC, is enemical to the chieftaincy institution therefore must not be allowed.
The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area in a letter explained , Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin as President of ERHC must reverse his decision as soon as possible for peace and tranquility to prevail among traditional rulers in the Eastern Region.
The letter read: “Indeed, the introduction of asymmetrical allocation which gives some paramouncies undue numerical advantage over others is totally repugnant to the letter and spirit of the Chieftaincy Act”.
“This extremely distasteful and arbitrary allocation method also plants a perpetual seed of discord into ERHC which will be difficult to erase. Above all, it could lead to potentially dangerous unintended consequences to undermine the Chieftaincy institution”
“The issue of the principle of allocation is so cardinal to this exercise. All members of the House need to be informed of any cogent reasons why the fair principle of equal allocation which had characterized the workings of the House from its inception should be thrown asunder without any justification whatsoever.”
“The adoption of unequal allocation principle introduces serious bias and asymmetry into the composition of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs without a justifiable rationale.”
