Ambulance Crew Escapes Unhurt after Harrowing Gunmen Ambush

An ambulance crew from Kpassa have narrowly escaped unhurt after it was ambushed by gunmen at Yendi while returning from critical patient handover to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The incident, according to a statement by the Ghana Ambulance Service occured on March 2 around 03:12 hrs.

It reported that the Ambulance with registration number GV-657-20 was approaching the first security barrier at Yendi when it came under gun fire attack, resulting in a windscreen shatter and front tyres blast.

“In a split-second display of professional skill and raw courage, SEMT Anthony Donkor didn’t panic. Under direct fire, he engaged the reverse gear and executed a high-speed tactical retreat, maneuvering the crippled vehicle 0.5 km to the safety of the Yendi Police Checkpoint.”

While the crew is confirmed to be safe and unhurt, it reported that the vehicle sustained significant damage, including a collapsed windscreen and two deflated/blasted front tyres.

“A full inspection for further ballistic damage is pending.”

It further commended the two crew members for their bravery.
