Ambrose Dery Renews Curfews On 3 Towns

The Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery has renewed curfews on three towns in the northern sector of Ghana including Bawku, Chereponi, and Bunkpurugu.

The renewal was undertaken in accordance with the Executive Instrument, a statement from the Ministry said.

Dery noted that curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region will spring between 8:00 pm to 5:00 am from July 6, 2022.

Meanwhile, the Curfew hours imposed on Bunkpurugu Township and its environs in the North-East Region will begin from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am effective Tuesday, 5th July 2022.

The curfew hours for Chereponi Township and its environs in the North East Region begin at 10:00 pm and end at 4:00 am effective, Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

In addition, a total ban has been placed on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon.

Persons found with such weapons, the minister said, will be arrested and prosecuted.

He also called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of these areas to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.

The three communities have been battling with threats of insecurity in the communities, concerns emanating from long-standing chieftaincy conflicts, and land disputes.
