Alleged National Security Operatives Forcefully Shut Bekwai District Forestry Office

The Forestry Commission has confirmed the forceful closure of its office at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region by some armed persons believed to be National Security operatives.

This followed a rampage by the alleged operatives at the Offinso, Bekwai and Nkawie District Offices earlier on July 28, 2025.

“It is confirmed that some alleged National Security operatives, whose faces were covered with masks, have locked the Bekwai District Office with additional padlocks. Their aim is yet unknown,” it said in a statement.

The Commission explained that about 15-20 masked men visited the Bekwai office in a pick-up and Land Cruiser, armed to the teeth.

“They locked down the offices with their own padlocks and took the keys away.”

It remains a mystery what the motivation behind the action was.

“It is unknown whether their action is linked to the arrest of some illegal miners last week. The District Manager is making calls to find out if the lockdown is really connected to National Security Operatives.”
