All You Need To Know About Kontomponiaferihene Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua I, Member Of Kotoko IMC
Born to Mr Kwabena Bonna Asafu-Adjaye (son of sir Edward OKYERE Asafu Adjaye) and Mrs Theresa Poku Afriyie (Daughter of Poku Transport) in November 1973, Edmund Asafu-Adjaye, was enstooled chief of Kontomponiaferi in December 2021.
He was over the weekend named among the four-member interim management members of the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the life patron of the Club, to steer its affairs.
The Chartered Accountant by profession is married to Mrs Edna Asafu-Adjaye with three children.
Education
He undertook his General Certificate of Education (GCE) O and A-Levels at Adisadel College in 1992 and pursued further at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Greenhill where he obtained a BA in Accounting and Finance in 2007. He furthered in the same institution and obtained an MBA in the same course in 2009.
The educational pursuit of the staunch Catholic didn’t end there as he proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon for an Executive MBA in Finance in 2011; became a Chartered Institute Taxation Finalist in 2014; became a Chartered Accountant after a course at the Institute of Chartered Accountant in 2012; and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in 2018.
Employment
Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua I has for the past 28 years worked as a Consultant in Ghana having his first employment opportunity with Asamoa Bonsu & Co, a chartered accountant firm where he worked for two years (July 1992 to December 1994).
With the firm, he worked as an Audit supervisor and as part of his work, supported the audit process by providing Project Management and Quality assurance- during which he was involved in the planning phase of the project; supervising team leaders; and directly assisting Engagement Partners in signing off opinions.
In January 1995, he resumed work following an employment opportunity from Asafu-Adjaye & Partners, another Chartered Accountant firm where he has worked to date.
He is currently a Managing Partner of the firm.
Social And Religious Ties
As a traditional ruler owing allegiance to the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 49-year-old is in charge of the welfare of the people of Kontomponiaferi.
His exceptional leadership is noticeable through policies and initiatives he has introduced since he assumed the stool including the provision of streetlights in the whole town to enhance security; the development of a Children’s Park in the town; and the development of a Community Event Centre.
He is not just a member of the Adisadel College Old Boys Association but also the Treasurer of the Global Executive Committee as well as secretary and Treasurer of the Adisadel Old Cadets Committee.
With his commitment to the Asante Professionals Association (APA), to which he is an Advisor, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah also prides himself as a Past President.
As a Catholic, he fellowships with St Magret Mary Parish in Accra and St Peter’s Cathedral Basilica in Kumasi.
