Aligning Cultural Values with Laws is First Step Towards Crime Prevention- Otumfuo

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that aligning cultural values to constitutional laws will provide the needed grounds for eradicating crimes from Ghanaian society.
Speaking at the National Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026, His Majesty called attention to the harsh reality that law enforcement does not come about with police sirens.
The King noted that the greatest victory of law enforcement is prevention, which begins with the teaching of discipline in homes.
“This is where culture performs its most important work. In a society where values are strong, the police officer is not seen as an adversary but as a partner.”
Juxtaposing a disciplined society with one with collapsed values, Otumfuo said the police officer becomes a symbol of oppression, and crime becomes defiance masquerading as freedom.
“The difference between the two societies is not the number of laws on the books but the presence or absence of culture. It should be obvious to us that the alignment of cultural values with the values of law should be the first step towards crime prevention.”
