Akyempimhene’s Devotion Earned Him ‘Bishop Badge of Honour’- Clergyman
Rev Father Richmond Darko Yeboah of the Anglican Church of Ghana has eulogized the dedication, devotion and commitment that was demonstrated by Akyempimhene Oheneba Adusei Poku of blessed memory.
The clergyman recalled his exceptional services to the St Cyprian Anglican Cathedral both during his youthful days and after ascending the prestigious stool while delivering a sermon at a memorial service held for the late traditional ruler 40 days after his demise.
He was born in 1947 to Mr Jacob Matthew Opoku who later ascended the Golden Stool as the 15th Asantehene- Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
The legal practitioner by profession is said to have leveraged his role as the son of the King and later the Akyempimhene to advance the Kingdom of God.
According to Father Yeboah, this earned him the Bishop Badge of Honour Award, the highest honour in the Church.
“Nana Akyempimhene did a lot for this city and this church and Ghana. He played a critical role in the activities of the church. Aside from his financial assistance, he came in with a lot of souls whenever he came to church,” he testified.
“While his father was alive, he was a patron of all the guilds and our societies especially, the Church Choir. During harvest seasons, he would gather the contributions of his father and many others and then bring them all to the church. This is why the late Bishop Edmund Kwadwo Yeboah honoured him with Bishop Badge of Honour.”
The Service was held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, and was graced by the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Also joining were traditional authorities in Kumasi and Asanteman, family members, royals, former Agriculture Minister, Dr Osei Akoto and others.
Until his death which occurred last month, Oheneba was the head of the Kyidom Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council.
