Akufo-Addo To Meet Chiefs Over Allotment Of Lands For PFJ Phase 2
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to meet chiefs in the country to court their support for the recently launched Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Phase Two programme.
The President will be engaging the chiefs to allot lands to farmers who seek to participate in the initiative.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information said the meeting with be held with the National House of Chiefs on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
“Recognized as custodians of land in Ghana, the release of land by our revered Chiefs to their subjects participating in the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II will significantly address the challenge of accessing land for agricultural production and boost the Government agenda of achieving food security for overall national development,” it said.
“The President expects that the support of Chiefs will further enhance efforts to make the program successful.”
The second phase of the project was launched by the President on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.
Speaking at the launch, President Akufo-Addo said, “The impact of the Programme is expected to be in the area of job creation, with some one-point-two million (1.2 million) farmers to be enrolled in the first year. In the next four (4) years, the Programme is destined to record an annual average of two hundred and ten thousand (210,000) new farm-related jobs. This will exclude other jobs along the agricultural value chains estimated at an annual average of four hundred and twenty thousand over the same period.”
