Akufo-Addo Lands in Benin for ECOWAS Observation Mission

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in Benin ahead of his observation mission in the country alongside other appointees of the ECOWAS.
He arrived in Cotonou, Benin, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, to begin key stakeholder engagements.
The Mission is charged with the responsibility of observing the presidential elections in the Republic of Benin on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Akufo-Addo is leading the carefully balanced and multidisciplinary delegation, which has twenty long-term observers, eighty short-term observers and twenty-five young professionals.
The team will be deployed across all localities in Benin in accordance with the provisions of the ECOWAS Additional Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
“I remain committed to working alongside the Republic of Benin to ensure a peaceful and credible election that respects the will of the people,” he said in a Facebook post on April 9, 2026.
