Akufo-Addo Denies Granting Presidential Pardon
The Jubilee House has denied granting Presidential Pardon to eleven individuals including the founder of defunct Capital Bank, William Ato Essien who was jailed 15 years in 2023.
Following the circulation of the said letter purported from the President to the Council of State recommending a review of the list on Monday, it was reported that the individuals had been granted pardon.
However, the Jubilee issued a statement to debunk it.
“The attention of the Office of the President has been drawn to reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has granted a presidential pardon to certain individuals,” a part of the statement issued by the Director of Communication, Eugene Arhin read.
It added, “We wish to categorically state that these assertions are inaccurate, and no pardon has been granted by President Akufo-Addo.”
Meanwhile, it urged the public to disregard the reports.
Ato Essien was convicted for his role in the collapse of Capital Bank and sentenced to 15 years after he defaulted GHS90 million payment conviction in 2023.
According to the said letter, he is suffering from severe life-threatening medical conditions and has undergone multiple surgeries.
Other names in that letter were Emmanuel Adu Mensah, Philip Akpeena Assibit, Akwasi Alhassan, Beatrice Ofori, Frank Obeng, Stephen Nyarko, Joseph Nana Kwaku Boateng, Osman Inusah, Kwame Twum Ampofo and Alexander Andrew Nii Lante Lawson.
