Agenda 111: Construction Still Ongoing at Trede after Commissioning- Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Mintah Akandoh, says the Agenda 111 facility at Trede remains under construction despite being commissioned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last year.
The Trede facility, where the symbolic sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals, and two psychiatric hospitals, as well as the rehabilitation of one regional hospital nationwide, took place, was commissioned two days before the presidential election.
On a visit to the site on March 3, 2025, following President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, the sector minister confirmed none of the hospitals was yet to be completed contrary to depictions by the former government.
Citing briefings from the contractor, he said, “When President went to Parliament for an address, he said none of the projects has been completed to deliver health care services. Where I am standing is one of the hospitals which was commissioned by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“The brick and mortar alone doesn’t qualify it as hospital. Workers and equipment all count. As witnessed, this is not a hospital. Construction is still ongoing. Per the briefing of the contractor and what I have seen, the Agenda 111, not a single one is completed.”
According to him, the building is still under construction while majority of the medical equipment is yet to be brought in.
Additionally, he said there was no recruitment plan instituted by the former government.
Meanwhile, he gave assurances of the President’s commitment to complete them all to deliver quality health care services to the public.
“President John Mahama has given me clear instructions to move the Agenda 111 to Ministry of Health. It was initially at the Presidency. He has given me a marching order to inspect all the projects and advise him on how to complete it.”
