Afua Asantewaa Seeks Asantehene’s Blessings For Sing-a-thon Success
Ghanaian Guinness World Records (GWR) attempter, Afua Asantewaa Aduounum has besought Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for blessings to emerge victorious in her second attempt to clutch a world record.
She joined the Manhyia Palace’s celebration of the first Awukudae Festival in 2025 on January 1 during which she formally informed the King about her attempt.
Accompanied by Mr Kofi Aduonum, Husband, Isaac Wiredu, a team member and Isaac Amponsah, a team member and led by ace broadcaster Kwame Adinkra, she sought the prayers and blessings of Otumfuo to emerge successful.
“Last year, she aspired to have her name written in the Guinness Book of Records. Since she is a singer, she decided to go for the singing marathon. In 2023, she did it in Accra but it was unsuccessful.
“Last year, she decided to do it in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Black Stars archived their first World Cup qualification at that venue,” Kwame Adinkra remarked on her behalf.
Already, she has submitted her evidence to the GWR and awaiting their review and score.
“She decided to come earlier but there wasn’t an opportunity. She has submitted the evidence and is here for the blessings of the King to be successful.”
First Attempt
In 2023, Afua began the attempt on December 24 and ended on December 28, singing Ghanaian songs for an impressive and a straight 126 hours 53 minutes in the quest to break India’s Sunil Waghmare’s record of 105 hours in 2012.
The attempt was unsuccessful. In a reply to enquiries about the outcome of the attempt, GWR disclosed that it was unsuccessful.
“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans.”
Second Attempt
After the previous year’s failure, she decided to go at it again, this time around, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
She set the ball rolling on December 21 and sang continuously for 121 hours 39 minutes at the Heroes Park.
The journalist by profession received the support of celebrities and residents in the course of the attempt.
“I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your amazing support during my Guinness World Record Longest Singing Marathon Individual attempt.
“Your energy, your encouragement, and your love fueled my spirit and gave me the strength to push through the challenges. Thank you for believing in me and for being part of this incredible journey. I am so proud to have represented Ghana on the global stage, and I am honoured to have shared this experience with all of you,” she said in a Facebook post after completing the attempt.
She is optimistic that her second attempt will go down in the annals of the records keeper.
