African Games: Ghana Wins 4 Medals
The host of the 13th African Games, Ghana, has won four medals in the ongoing event in two sports disciplines.
Hope for the West African country in the chase for a medal drained during the early days of the competition with its athletes falling short in sports like table tennis and badminton.
On March 10, Ghana ranked 10th on the medal row after winning a gold and three silver medals thanks to Winnifred Ntumi and Abeku Jackson.
Winnifred won Ghana’s first gold medal after success in women’s 49kg weightlifting. She went ahead to win two more silver medals in the women’s 49kg clean-jerk and women’s 49kg snatch.
Meanwhile, swimmer Jackson won a silver medal in men’s 50m butterfly after coming second.
Shining bright of the medal row with 66 medals is Egypt having won 36 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze medals, followed by Algeria with 39 medals.
South Africa has 28, Nigeria 26, Mauritius six, Madagascar 10, Tunisia 17, Morocco 13, and Uganda 7.
Namibia like Ghana has four medals, Zimbabwe one, Senegal eight, Cote d’Ivoire two, Cameroon four, Angola three, Libya one, Republic of Congo four, Burkina Faso three, Botswana two, Kenya two, DR Congo and Eritrea one each.
