Afenyo-Markin Retracts, Apologises to Interior Minister over Illegal Recruitment Claims

The Minority Leader, Hon Alexander Afenyo Markin, has issued an unqualified apology to the Minister for Interior, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, Hon Muntaka Mubarak.

The apology is on the back of comments that the minister was involved in illegal recruitment into the security service and further causing financial burden to the applicants by introducing the online aspect of the recruitment.

In Parliament on Tuesday, the Minority Leader unreservedly retracted his allegations made against the government and the Interior Minister.

The apology comes after the Minister made an application under Standing Order 67 (1u) and Standing Order 31, to refer the Minority Leader to the Privileges Committee to substantiate his allegations during the commencement of sitting on March 3, 2026.

Upon retracting and apologising for his comments and acceptance by the Interior Minister, the First Deputy Speaker withdrew the referral to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities.
