Adum PZ Fire: Institute Thorough Investigations into Market Fire Incidence- Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for thorough investigations to ascertain the root cause of the recent incessant fire outbreaks in markets across the country.

This is in response to the recent market fire at Adum PZ in Kumasi’s Central Business District on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The fire which started at 4 am on the top floor of a four-storey commercial building spread to other blocks and floors consuming goods worth millions of cedis.

In a Facebook post, the Speaker sympathized with the affected traders.

“This morning’s fire incidence in Kumasi is very disturbing. My heartfelt concern goes to the traders and persons who have lost valuable items in the disaster.”

He also commended the firefighters for their dexterous efforts against the fierce blaze in the face of accessibility challenges.

“May I commend the Ghana National Fire Service men and women and all who fought to put out the fire.”

The Speaker recognizes that this adds to the worrying trend of increasing fire disasters across the country in the past few weeks.

He recommended an investigation into it.

“I recommend a thorough investigations to get to the root causes of the incidence and how the response could be improved.”

He also suggested effective fire sensitization programmes as proactive measures.

“There is also the need for effective community engagement on fire issues to reduce the incidence and improve upon mitigations.”
