Adhere Strictly To Agreed Security Protocols During Festivals; Police to Chiefs

The Ghana Police Service has encouraged traditional authorities to uphold security protocols during festival celebrations.

It cautioned against acts that could jeopardise public peace.

“The Command strongly cautions traditional leaders, elders, and their supporters to adhere strictly to agreed security arrangements,” it said in a statement.

It comes after a gun violence Anyaa and Suwutuom during the climax of the annual Homowo Festival on Saturday, claimed three lives and maimed four others.

It explained, “Preliminary investigations reveal that a misunderstanding broke out between followers of two rival chiefs during the sprinkling of the traditional food (Kpokpol), leading to an exchange of gunfire.

“The situation escalated when some attendees attempted to leave the festival grounds, resulting in further attacks at Olebu.”

The police have since deployed additional personnel to restore calm and maintain law and order in the affected areas while intelligence-led operations are underway to identify and arrest all those involved in the violence.
