Achimota School Rastafarian Secures Scholarship to Study at University of Pennsylvania
Tyrone Marghuy- one of the two students of Achimota Senior High School whose admission in 2021 generated a controversy- has secured a US$1.4 million scholarship grant to study at the University of Pennsylvania.
The brilliant student will read Computer Engineering after achieving straight As in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Announcing this in a Facebook post, he described the opportunity as an “incredible” one.
He used the occasion to reflect on his battle against the Achimota school which he subsequently won in court and committed himself to making the difference wherever he goes.
“As I embark on this new chapter at the University of Pennsylvania, I carry with me the lessons of resilience, advocacy, and gratitude. This is just the beginning of a journey where I hope to continue making a difference, not only through my studies in engineering but also by keeping my beloved Ghana close to my heart.”
In December 2023, social media was awash with copies of Tyrone Marghuy’s impressive WASSCE result.
A video of him checking his results on the internet showed the physically elated young man and his friends jumping up and down in beams of excitement.
Within the same period, he shared his SAT results online which portrayed a score of 1500.
