Abu Trica and Co-accused Persons Discharged by Court

The Gbese District Court has discharged three accused persons, including Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, in an extradition case in an alleged US$8 million romance fraud scheme targeting elderly victims.

This was reported by Oliver Barker Vormawor, who is acting as the legal representative of the accused persons.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Just finished at the Gbese District Court. Abu Trica and 2 others have been discharged.”

Meanwhile, he said the Narcotic Control Commission (NACOC) attempted to rearrest his clients inside the courtroom.

Abu Trica was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office with the intent of being extradited to the United States to face criminal charges in December 2025.

EOCO said the arrest was the result of months of intelligence gathering and investigations conducted jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Narcotics Control Commission, the International Criminal Police Organisation, the National Investigations Bureau, the Cyber Security Authority and the Office of the Attorney General.

According to the statement, “Abu Trica” was part of a network that targeted elderly victims in the United States through romance scams, using Artificial Intelligence software to assume false identities online.

The perpetrators allegedly formed close personal and romantic relationships with victims before deceiving them into parting with money and valuables.
