Ablekuma North Violence: There Were About 20 Thugs, Arrest Them All; Nana B to Police

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has urged the police to persist further in their investigations into the Ablekuam North rerun violence after the latter announced the prosecution of eight suspects.

According to him, about 20 thugs were behind the violence that rocked the election last month.

“I commend the IGP for his swift investigations and prosecution of these hoodlums after the NPP in the meeting with the IGP called on the IGP to arrest and prosecute those NDC thugs.

“However, videos available show that about twenty (20) persons were involved in the regrettable violence during the Ablekuma North Elections, and we expect investigations to continue and all of them brought to face justice.”

He further described as “shocking” the decision by the court to grant the accused persons bail after pleading guilty to the charges.

Henry used the occasion to hold the Inspector General of Police to his word as political parties prepare for the Akwatia by-election.

“The IGP gave a firm commitment that 5,000 police personnel would be deployed for the Akwatia elections and that the police would not need the presence or the intervention of the military in the Akwatia by-elections. Regrettably, we have sighted military presence in and around Akwatia from Sunday, 24th August, till today, 27th August.”
