Abedwum Oyoko Royal Stool Allegedly Stolen by Destooled Chief

The Oyoko Royal Family of Abedwum in the Adansi North District is urging the Ghana Police Service to arrest the former chief, Prof. Joe Amoako Tuffour, who allegedly took the Oyoko Royal stool after being destooled by the Paramount Chief of New Edubiase, Oguahyia Oduro Panin Birikorang I, for gross misconduct three days earlier.

According to the family, on the night of August 16, between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., a group of “machomen”, accompanied by several police officers, stormed the Abedwum palace.

They forcibly entered the stool room (Nkonyadaamu) and took away the black stool, along with some gold ornaments that have been in existence for the past 600 years.

Victims who suffered gunshot wounds during the incident, along with other eyewitnesses, recounted their experiences to newsmen who visited the community.

After performing traditional rituals to seek Nananom’s assistance in locating the missing stool, Abusuapanin Kwaku Asare stated that they have not yet informed the Chief of New Edubiase to take necessary action regarding this alarming incident.

The Queen Mother of Abedwum, Nana Konadu Akyaw Yiadom III, appealed to her fellow Oyoko Royal Family members across various paramountcies to unite in the effort to retrieve the missing stool, which is a symbol of authority for the Oyoko Royal Family in the Asante Kingdom.
