A/R: Residents Urged to Store Enough Water ahead of GWCL Repairs
Residents of Kumasi who depend on the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) have been directed to store enough water as management plans to shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant for some repair work.
Plans are far advanced for the shutdown on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
The repair works will be undertaken on the 900mm (36”) transmission line at Breman Ahenfo after the transmission line was perforated by a road contractor’s equipment that was used in constructing drains from the Suame roundabout to Breman Ahenfo on July 12.
“Management has requested for the shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant which supplies water to the metropolis to enable engineers of GWL to repair the line on Wednesday, 24th July 2024 to restore the transmission line. As a result, customers are advised to store enough water ahead of this important exercise.”
Some areas likely to affected include Suame, Tafo/Pankrono, Asokwa, Bantama, Sokoban, Kronum, Barekese, Manhyia, Oforikrom, Kwadaso, Atasamanso, Kotwi, Adum, KNUST, Odoum, Asokore Mampong, and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, Management apologized for the inconvenience, adding that “supply will be restored immediately after work is completed”.
It would be recalled that the treatment plant was shut down a few days ago for repair works.
In their recent statement, the Company explained it undertook temporary repairs to “restore supply to residents”.
