A/R: Regional Minister to Kick Out Traders Encroaching Kejetia Market Entrance

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amoakohene has announced plans to kick out all traders illegally occupying entrance and other untradeable sections of the Kejetia Market in Kumasi.
This is among the interventions he plans to lay out at the functional Kejetia Phase I after his visit and tour of the market on February 11, 2025.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, he said his tour familiarized him with significant management challenges at the facility requiring urgent intervention.
He emphasized the need to clear these traders from the spots to facilitate the movement, particularly during emergencies.
“Immediate steps will be taken to clear encroachers at the entrance of the facility to ensure smooth movement for traders and enhance safety, especially in emergency situations.”
Another intervention he plans to put in place is the renovation of the portions of the Eastern Wing of the market that have been rendered dormant after a fire incident almost three years ago.
He intends to make that portion operational.
“Work will soon begin on rehabilitating the eastern wing, which was damaged by fire on March 15, 2023, but has since been left unattended.”
Further, he announced efforts to deal with the persistent fire incidents in the market.
His office will be holding a meeting on the pressing issues of the market on February 13, he announced, adding that the well-being and safety of traders and the smooth operation of Kejetia Market remain a top priority.
“We will continue to work towards solutions that benefit all stakeholders,” he noted.
