A/R: Police Officers Offered ¢150k after Intercepting Suspected Narcotic Drugs

Some officers of the Ghana Police Service were allegedly offered a GH¢150,000 bribe by a bus driver carrying slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs during a snap check duty at Asanso in the Ashanti Region.
The offer came after a search conducted on his Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number AC 718-25 on January 26, 2026, led to the discovery of nine nylon sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in the bus.
“The sacks were opened, revealing a total of seven hundred and thirteen compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs,” a police statement reported.
The suspect, in an attempt to bail himself out of the situation, allegedly offered GH¢150,000 to the officers.
The offer was outrightly rejected, the police noted.
The suspect identified as Atampugri Akanyani is currently in police custody, assisting investigations.
Meanwhile, it reported that continuous efforts are underway to trace the source of the suspected narcotic drugs and identify other persons connected to the offence.
