Tolon SHS Breaks After Fire Outbreak

The Tolon Senior High School in the Northern Region of Ghana has handed down a week break to students after fire razed down the girl’s dormitory in the school on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Reports indicate that the fire began around 9 am.

Items lost in fire included belongings of the students as well as beds and other items.

Following that, authorities of the school have sent the students home in order to put adequate measures in place to accommodate them when they return.

The Headmaster, Mr. Mohammed Issifu told the media the decision to send the students home was done in consultation with stakeholders.

“It is not that the school has been closed down but the students have been temporarily requested to go home and come back within a week. This (decision) was taken in consultation with the director both district and regional. It’s because the dormitory, the upper part that accommodates the girls, has been completely burnt down.

For the meantime, the school authorities are considering converting some of its classrooms into accommodation facilities for the students, the headmaster of the school said.

Acting Public Relations Fire Officer for the Northern Region, Baba Hudu who spoke to the media said preliminary investigation suggests that a plugged heater left in the dormitory caused the fire.
