Informal Sector Must Be Added To The Tax Net; GUTA
Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), has proposed that the informal sector in the country must be added to the tax net to increase the country’s revenue.
Speaking on Opemsuo Radio with Agudey on the Nkwantananso show, Second Vice President, Mr. Charles Gyan said, in the quest of the government to generate revenue, those in the informal sector such as the carpenters, masons, plumbers and the others must all be made to pay taxes to widen the tax net.
According to him, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) which is the country’s institution mandated with revenue mobilization responsibility has relaxed in expanding the tax net leaving only the formal sector and traders to pay taxes which is not helping at all.
He stated that, the government must be bold enough to lay out structures to make the GRA come out of its comfort zone to initiate policies that will put so many people in the tax net to reduce the pressure at the formal sector and traders who are directly involved the economic process.
“This appeal has appeared severally on the table of the government in our encounter with them but would not listened”, he added.
