GRTCC Tells Public To Disregard GPRTU 20% Fare Implementation
The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council has called on commuters, drivers, and the general public to disregard the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)’s 20% transport fare increment.
“We wish to advise the public to disregard any increase and the drivers to desist from charging any new fare”.
This was contained in a press release dated May 8, ahead of the implementation of the increased rate of the GPRTU.
The GRTCC held that transport fare prices have always been negotiated for and on behalf of all transport operators by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
According to the GTRCC, this protocol cannot be sidelined.
“We want to reiterate that the GRTCC and the GPRTU have not divorced from standing protocol for a fare increase, it is, therefore, unjustified for any group of persons to stampede the process to announce fare increase without reference to the standing protocol”.
It added that the tripartite made up of the Minister for Transport, The GPRTU, and the GRTCC are scheduled to meet on Wednesday, May 11 to deliberate on the proposal for the price increase.
