Executive Director Of Peasant Farmers Says PFJ Has Boosted Yields

The Executive Director of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Dr. Charles Nyaaba, has highlighted an increase farm produce as part of the benefits of the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative.

This was contained in a recorded video taken by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture when some members of the association called on the Minister, Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

In the video, Charles Nyaaba was outlining the benefits of the PFJ.

“When PFJ started, fertiliser was subsidised 50%. Our fertiliser application was less than 50kg/h but now most farmers are used to fertiliser applications. Uptake of improved seeds was very low but with the PFJ, you can now see more companies with improved seeds, and farmers are increasing their yields.

“Extension service has improved a bit. Overall agricultural contribution to GDP has increased as a result of the PFJ so we just hope that this success will be sustained so that in future we will be able to count as the success story of PFJ.”

“The government of Ghana through my help has initiated innovative policies such as the PFJ and its modules to transform the Agricultural sector in the past five years”, the sector Minister posted on his Facebook page.
