Gov’t Says It Is Modernising And Renovating Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Cape Coast & Elmina Castles
The government of Ghana says it has begun a comprehensive innovation and modernisation of tourist attraction sites across the country to put Ghana ahead of her neighbours when it comes to tourism in West Africa.
According to the government, sites that will taste renovation include the Cape Coast Castle and the Elmina Castle, and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Records show that Ghana had an increase in visitors last year compared to 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak.
“Last year, the country recorded some six hundred and twenty-three thousand, five hundred and twenty-three (623,523) visitors, up from the three hundred and fifty-five thousand, one hundred and eight (355,108) visitors, the year before, signifying a marked rebound of our tourism sector”, President Akufo-Addo said addressing Parliament.
The president recalled with nostalgia, “the end of the year 2019, just before the onset of COVID, when the world came to Ghana in that “December to Remember”, and we were the happy place to be at the end of our Year of Return. Ghana continues to lead the push for African renaissance through the decade-long ‘Beyond the Return Project’. The “December in GH” component of this project has positioned Ghana as the destination to visit every December”.
He stressed that the country should recapture those glorious moments and build on them as the country work hard to reclaim what was lost during the COVID years.
