Bulgaria’s Ambassador To Ghana Says Akufo-Addo Reneged On Promise To Resolve The Embassy Demolition Impasse
Bulgarian Ambassador to Ghana, Yanko Yordanov has said President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo failed to deliver on his promise when the latter reassured him the dispute surrounding the land where Bulgaria’s Embassy once stood was going to be solved in no time.
The issue about the disputed land is said to have reached the president when Yordanov went to present his credence letter.
Before that, Yordanov says he engaged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the same issue.
“I engaged with the ministry of foreign affairs and regional integration and I also discussed this issue with President Akufo-Addo who reassured me the result will be very soon.
“But our expectation didn’t match the reality at all and for this reason, we are still insisting on the implementation of the convention which must be done in a proper way.”
In a media interview monitored by opemsuo.com, Yordanov said enough has not been done on Ghana’s part in the implementation of the Vienna Convention, however, his outfit is looking for effective ways to cooperate with the Ghanaian authorities in this regard.
“The government must provide us access to our property and this property must be recognised as ours by each and every judicial level in Ghana, including Ghana’s Supreme court which ruled in favour of Bulgaria with regards to old claims made by other people against us. The ruling of the Supreme Court should be implemented”, he stated firmly.
In 2017, a private developer demolished the Bulgarian Embassy, located at Kakramadu Road, Plot No. 10, East Cantonments in Accra, claiming ownership of the land.
