Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Declares Feb. 6 Queen Mothers’ Day In Asanteman
The overlord of the Asante kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has declared February 6 as a day for Queen mothers in his kingdom.
The day will be used to celebrate queen mothers for their contribution to humanity and the development in the Asante kingdom and nation Ghana at large.
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II relayed this at the Grand Awukudae and celebration of the 5th enstoolment anniversary of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
“All Queen mothers must take note that the sixth day of the second month of each year is a day for queen mothers which ought to be commemorated”, the Asantehene said through his liguist at the ceremony.
February 6, marks the day Nana Konadu Yiadom III ascended the Nyarko Kusiamoah and Konadu Yiadom Stool as the 14th Queen of the Asante Kingdom.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the ceremony, recounted how the enstoolment of his elder sister, Nana Konadu Yiadom came about.
“I didn’t enstool her because she is my biological sister but she was the heir to the stool customarily. When my mother passed away, my sister, Adwoa Achiaa was alive, Ama Serwaa Bonsu was also alive and my biological sister, Ama Konadu was also there.
“I personally visited Adwoa Achiaa but she was ill so I proceeded to Serwaa Bonsu because they were the elders. Looking at their health condition, I went to Ama Konadu who was next on the line.”
Testifying about the Queen mother’s selflessness and composure which suits her position, Otumfuo said “It’s my prayer that she reigns for a long time”
