President Akufo-Addo Sacks MD of Ghana Airport
The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has called for the immediate termination of the appointment of the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yaw Kwakwa.
This was contained in a letter written by the Minister for Transports, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, dated February 2, 2022, written to the Board chairman of GACL and copied to the secretary to the Vice President, Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House, and secretary of the president at the Jubilee House.
“His Excellency the President of the Republic, per letter No. OPS127/22/104 dated 31st January 2022, has directed that the appointment of Mr. Yaw Kwakwa the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited be terminated”, the statement said.
“In this regard, kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the directive”, it added.
Although the reason for his termination was not relayed, some staff members of the company had been advocating for his removal over allegations of incompetence.
Additionally, this comes days after business tycoon, Daniel McKole, had his private jet terminal shut down by the Ghana Airports Company over issues of regulatory breaches a few days after it was launched.
