Chinese, 2 Others Arrested In Connection With Risky Log Transportation In Ejisu
The Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu, Samuel Oduro Frimpong has confirmed the arrest of three persons in connection with the risky transportation of logs in Ejisu in the Ashanti region.
The risky venture was captured in viral videos. According to one of the footage, a skidder was transporting a log on a highway. In another video, the skidder was seen driving over people and approaching a school bus that had students in it.
The three persons who were arrested yesterday, January 26, 2022, included a Chinese who is the owner of the sawmill where the logs were being conveyed and owner of the skidder seen in the video, the transport officer of the sawmill, and the driver of the skidder.
In an interview on opemsuo radio’s Nkwantananso show with George Opoku Mensah, the MCE for Ejisu narrated that the truck carrying logs to the company at the centre of the disarray broke down in the middle of the road blocking it.
According to him, a towing vehicle was brought in but the logs had to be offloaded so the skidder came in to transport the logs to their destination.
This, he noted, transpired on Monday, January 24, 2022, around 3 pm.
He added that two others including the owner of the timber truck that broke down and the driver of that same truck will also be arrested and prosecuted.
“The driver of the timber truck had been dragged to the Central Police Station by the Forestry Commission when we called him yesterday but we ordered him to report to the Ejisu Police Station by 8 am today”, he revealed.
He confirmed that “the officers (MTTD officers) spotted in the video have been queried to explain why they shirked their responsibility”.
