Members Of Police Band Involved In Accident While Journeying To Perform
17 members of the Eastern Regional Police Band have been involved in a road traffic accident while journeying to perform at an event at Somanya.
The accident happened on Saturday, November 27 along the Koforidua-Somanya road.
The vehicle in which the team was traveling is reported to have had brake failure causing the driver to lose control thereby running into a ditch.
The 17 personnel sustained various degrees of injuries.
They were then admitted to the Atua Government Hospital, Somanya, and Koforidua hospitals.
According to the police, thirteen of them have so far been treated and discharged while the remaining four are in a critical condition.
Together with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, the Director-General Welfare, DCOP/ Edward Johnson Akrofi Oyirifi, Eastern Regional Police Commander, and some other senior officers, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare visited the injured on Sunday, November 28.
He paid visits to those who had been discharged in their various homes as well as those at the hospital.
“In consultation with the Senior Surgeon at the hospital, Dr. Moses Dukuruku, the IGP requested that all the victims should be referred to the Police Hospital for further medical care”, the police said.
