Abject poverty is killing us-94-year old veteran
Ex-Sergeant Samuel Kwabeng has called on the Government of Ghana to address the spike at which veterans are succumbing to death in recent days.
The 94-year-old retired soldier explained abject poverty is the cause of their deaths.
He made these revelations during the 74th Remembrance Day Service for 4 garrisons which were held yesterday, November, 11 in Kumasi.
Mr. Kwabeng disclosed his GH¢1,500 old-age benefit is insufficient to take care of his 9 children and 29 grandchildren.
“Poverty is killing us. We find ourselves in abject poverty. Our pension pay is insufficient; it gets finished right in the bank when we withdraw. We are dying. Before COVID-19, we were more than we are today, they have all died. We are dying out of abject poverty”, he said.
The veteran said he retired on March 1, 1989.
