UG Vice-Chancellor Presents Herself To Otumfuo Asantehene
Vice Chancellor for the University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has presented herself to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after her appointment and her recent induction.
In a courtesy call, Prof. Amfo was joined by Prof. Oteng Ababio, Dr. Anderson, Prof. Nketia, Prof. Owusu Ansah, Prof. Charity Akwatia, Dr. Philip Mantey, and other delegates of the University.
Prof. Amfo informed His Majesty, the King, of the University’s aim of establishing a City Campus in Kumasi. She also pleaded with Otumfuo to help evacuate encroachers from the school’s concession at Amakom.
“We want to establish Kumasi City Campus. We have a concession at Amakom but encroachers are taking up the land; scrap dealers, cattle farmers. We want Your Majesty to help us protect our land. We are planning on hedging it but we fear misunderstanding may arise.
Otumfuo in turn confessed Prof. Amfo’s appointment did not come as a surprise to him seeing her commitment and hard work. He also assured of his confidence in her.
“I wasn’t surprised when she (Prof. Amfo) was appointed to that position. I had been following her (Prof. Amfo) write-ups in the papers and I predicted she (Prof. Amfo) would be a Vice Chancellor. I’m confident she can work up to the task ahead. She is the hope for many females”, the King of the Asante Kingdom noted.
He said, “this is a great task but you (Prof. Amfo) are endowed with the requite knowledge. You can indeed do it. Be confident and keep up with your humility and hardwork.”
Otumfuo also admonished the delegation to help “push her. She might err at a point in time but help her out to get her on the right track.”
He then entrusted the issue of encroachment with his Chief of Staff to deal with it expeditiously.
