Simon Osei Mensah Throws Support Behind Anti-LGBTQ+ BIll
Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has thrown his support behind the anti-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Asexual (LGBTQ+) Bill before parliament.
According to the former Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, LGBTQ+ has no place in the Ghanaian culture rather, polygamy is.
“Our culture frowns at it, ours is polygamy”, he said in an exclusive interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Adu Gyamfi and Adwoa Serwaa.
The Ashanti Minister said he is against the LGBT+ community and sees no need for it to be legalized in the country. He fears the same destruction that visited some defunct countries who practiced the act will visit Ghana if the country endorses it.
“God wreaked havoc on Sodom and Gomorrah some time ago due to LGBTQ+. I do not see why we should accept it seeing the adverse punishment the people got from doing that. I am against it. Animals in the forest do not mate with the same sex. The scriptures have also charged us to reproduce, if we engage in LGBTQ+, how will that be possible”, indicated.
He added that, “although each person has his own will, I will advise persons in such an act to desist from it because they wouldn’t be on earth if their parents settled on that.”
The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo disproved in a media interview that the debate in the country over the bill pressurizes him. He however hopes the debate will be civil, tolerant to opposing views and be handled legally and constitutionally.
The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Value Bill is seeking to outlaw LGBTQ+ in its entirety.
Samuel Nartey George (Ningo-Prampram), Emmanuel Bedzrah (Ho West), Della Adjoa Sowah (Kpando), John Ntim Fordjour (Assin South), Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini (Tamale North), Helen Adjoa Ntoso (Krachi West) Rita Naa Odoley Sowah (La Dadekotopon), Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi) are the sponsors of the Bill.
